Bryant Fowler, born about 1824, was the son of Stephen Fowler (1800–1866) and Sarah (d. before 1840). Stephen was the son of Ephraim Fowler (1765-1822), son of Henry Ellis Fowler (1746-1808).
Bryant Fowler enlisted in the South Carolina 18th Infantry, Company F on February 1, 1862. Records also indicate that he enlisted in Charleston, SC on December 23, 1863.
He was wounded on July 18, 1864 during the Petersburg siege north and south of the James River, Virginia. It is almost certain that he went home and never returned to his regiment as he was listed as “absent without leave” in the roll call of January/February 1865.
He and his wife Elizabeth Wright (1824–1914) had three sons and two daughters:
- Gillman Fowler (1852–1924)
- Isaac Fowler (1859–1924)
- Emma Fowler (1860–1927)
- Harriet Fowler (1861–1942)
- Joseph Fowler (1865–1930)
Bryant Fowler survived the Civil War but he did not survive being run over by a buggy and injured just before Christmas 1905. He died in August 1906.
