In 1860, twenty-three year old Charles N. Fowler lived near thirty-four year old William G. Fowler in the Kelton/Pea Ridge part of Union County. Both men enlisted in Holcombe’s Legion Company D Calvary at Camp Hampton on the same day –December 10, 1861.

In spite of many years of researching, I have not been able to identify the specific Fowler line of either man. It is my opinion that they were brothers.

Charles N. Fowler was the husband of Elizabeth (Eubanks?)(b. 1834) and the father of a son, Adolphus Fowler (1858-1940). To serve the Confederate cause, he left them behind and marched off to war.

Charles N. Fowler was mustered into service on December 17, 1861. In the January/February 1862 Muster Roll, he was listed as “absent, on detailed courier service for Lt. Col. James“.

Charles N. Fowler died June 7, 1862 in Adams Run Hospital near Charleston, SC.
